(Language) Language Proficiency
What is Intercultural Competence?
“The need for language competence in a global society touches every sector of life. From career preparation in an international workforce to citizen diplomacy and national defense to one’s role in a social or virtual community, communication across cultures is key. Learners today must have the language proficiency to communicate with global audiences, the insight into the cultural perspectives that shape those audiences, and the ability to behave appropriately in a variety of cultural contexts.”

This presentation helped me improve my awareness of the various dialects across the Hispanic world from slang, grammar differences, and pronuncuation. I researched Pennensular Spanish, Mexican, and Rioplatanese and compared their regional differences. My research helped my awareness of the various changes in the language and how different Spanish speakers communicate with their regional differences.

I discussed which assignments helped me improve the most, and how “Carta a mi nieto” by Juan Gelman gave me a deeper understanding of the Cono Sur and the South American cultures and political landscapes.
