Student Responsibilities
Each student is responsible for maintaining contact with their advisor. If they have an interim advisor, it is the student’s obligation to find a graduate faculty member in the College of Education who has mutual interests and expertise relating to their own area of focus and who demonstrates a willingness to serve as a program advisor. Upon agreement, the student and the faculty member submit the program committee membership form to the program coordinator requesting assignment of the advisor and committee members.
Each student is responsible for:
- Completing an updated Program Planning Form at the end of each year and submitting via shared Google document to the program coordinator
- Clearly defining individual program goals in collaboration with one’s advisor and committee and assuming program responsibility
- Investigating possible learning opportunities (including internship/practicum sites, if applicable)
- Keeping the advisor and program coordinator informed about program progress and seeking help when problems or obstacles arise
- Taking an active role in designing a comprehensive evaluation experience that reflects program accomplishments
- Conducting substantial research and preparing a dissertation that reflects the highest standards of scholarship
- Respecting commitments of the dissertation committee, and assuring adequate time for reading the proposal and the dissertation work as it proceeds
- Meeting all deadlines and filing all required forms with the Graduate College (the program coordination team can help with this).
- Upholding the Boise State University Student Code of Conduct
- Demonstrating the highest degree of ethical behavior related to professional practice and research expectations
