Create a Mini-Unit Podcast.
Work: individually or in small groups.
Duration of the podcast: 3-5 min.
Language: English and basic Spanish.
The topic of Podcast: Greetings and farewells in Spanish speaking countries.
Technology: Smartphones that have a sound recording app (Apple: “voice memos” – Android: “Audio Recorder” or “RecForge II”).
Learning Outcomes: Students will enhance their intercultural competence while practicing greetings and farewells.
Instructions:
1. During the first unit class (Greetings and farewells), talk about the different ways people greet others in Spanish speaking countries. Ask students to compare their own cultural customs and those of Spanish speaking countries.
2. Ask students to research the way greetings are done in different Spanish speaking countries. Are they all the same? what are the differences?. Students can choose to interview somebody from a Spanish speaking country.
3. Students will write their dialog.
4. Students will record their “Greetings and farewells in Spanish speaking countries” podcast.
5. Students will present their Chapter 1. The podcast to the rest of the class. You can choose to do it during a class period or listen to 1-5 each day.
