Arabic Level 3, Activity 01: “Daily Verbs Review / مُراجَعَة أفْعَال مُهِمّة” (Face-to-Face/Online)

Description:

In this activity, students will review how to introduce themselves in Arabic, also they will practice some important verb conjugations that they can use in everyday life.

Semantic Topics:

الأكل، أكَل، يأكُل، الفَطُور، فَطَر، يفطر، الجُلُوس، جَلَسَ، يجْلس….الخ، food, eat, eating, breakfast, sitting down, verbs, verb conjugations.

Products: Who am I? My age, and my hobbies.

Practices: When you want to start any conversation, you will need to introduce yourself first. By introducing your name first, and where are you from, sometimes you will need to talk about what you would like to do in your free time.

Perspectives: Having a nice and simple conversation talking about yourself and asking others simple questions about themselves in Arabic would make you feel more comfortable and confident to even talk more, and get more involved and socialized.

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.1: Students engage in conversations or correspondence in Arabic to provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret spoken and written Arabic on a variety of topics.
  • Standard 2.1: Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the cultures of the Arab world.
  • Standard 4.2: Students demonstrate an understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons between the cultures of the Arab world and their own

Idaho Content Standards for World Languages:

  • COMM 1.1: Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions
  • COMM 2.1: Understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.
  • CLTR 1.1: Analyze the cultural practices/patterns of behavior accepted as the societal norm in the target culture.
  • CLTR 1.2: Explain the relationship between cultural practices/behaviors and the perspectives that represent the target culture’s view of the world.

NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements:

  • I can introduce myself to others and ask others to introduce themselves.
  • I can understand some verbs that I can use in everyday conversation.
  • I can conjugate both past and present verbs.

Materials Needed:

Warm-Up

  1. First, start by introducing yourself and reviewing the policies for online conversation labs on the next slide.

  2. Then, ask students to introduce themselves by answering the questions on the next slide. Start by yourself as an example

Main Activity

  1. Students will take turns guessing the past and present tenses for the given verbs on slides.
    سيتناوب الطلاب على تخمين أزمنة الماضي والحاضر للأفعال المعطاة في الشرائح.
  2. Read the first one as an example.
    اقرأ الأول كمثال.

    Wrap-Up

    1. Students will take turns filling in the blanks for the three sentences provided.يتناوب الطلاب على ملء الفراغات الخاصة بالجمل الثلاث المقدمة..

    End of Activity

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
