Arabic Level 3, Activity 02: “At home / في البيت” (Face-to-Face/Online)

Description:

In this activity, students will be practicing the home vocabulary with a special focus on how they would use the verbs, استطيع، اعود. They will be having a small discussion with each other asking and answering questions.

Semantic Topics:

to return, to can, home, school, sleep, work, bed, play, chess, coffee, breakfast, أعود، أستطيع، بيت، النوم، المدرسة، عمل، السرير، اللعب، الشطرنج، العائلة، القهوة، الفطور

Grammatical Structures: Possessive pronouns, verb conjugation, usually

Products: what I can and can not do at my home.

Practices: asking and answering questions about home and family.

Perspectives: where are your favorite spot in your home? where do you prefer to study?

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.1: Students engage in conversations or correspondence in Arabic to provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret spoken and written Arabic on a variety of topics.
  • Standard 2.1: Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the cultures of the Arab world.
  • Standard 4.2: Students demonstrate an understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons between the cultures of the Arab world and their own

Idaho Content Standards for World Languages:

  • COMM 1.1: Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions
  • COMM 2.1: Understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.
  • CLTR 1.1: Analyze the cultural practices/patterns of behavior accepted as the societal norm in the target culture.
  • CLTR 1.2: Explain the relationship between cultural practices/behaviors and the perspectives that represent the target culture’s view of the world.

NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements:

  • I recognize most of the “Home” vocabulary to describe my home.
  • I can use both verbs اسْتَطَاعَ، عَادَ conjugated with subject pronouns.
  • I can talk about my favorite spot at my home.

Materials Needed:

Warm-Up

  1. you will be reviewing the possessive pronouns with two verbs and their conjugation.  ask students to take turns reading the table for استطاع، عاد
    سوف تقوم بمراجعة ضمائر الملكية مع الأفعال وتصريفها. اطلب من الطلاب أن يتناوبوا على قراءة الجدول والفعلين:  استطاع ، عاد.

Main Activity

  1. you will ask students to take turns asking each other the questions provided in the main activity slide.  Have a small discussion with students about what is the question asking.
    ستطلب من الطلاب أن يتناوبوا على طرح الأسئلة الواردة في شريحة النشاط الرئيسي.  تناقش مع الطلاب حول ما يطرحه السؤال.

    Wrap-Up

    1. ask students to share in Arabic “what is your favorite spot in your home? why”, and “where do you prefer to study? home or school?”
      اسأل الطلاب بالعربية.
      ماهُو مَكَانَك المُفَضل في البَيت؟ لـمَاذا؟أيْن تُفَضّل أن تَدْرُس عادةً؟ في البيت أم في المَدْرَسَة؟

    End of Activity

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
