Arabic Level 4, Activity 10: “My Memories / ذكرياتي” (Face-to-Face/Online)

Description:

In this Activity, students will talk about beautiful emotions, asking and answering questions about things they did for the first time in their life and how it felt, as well as sharing a happy memory they remember.

Semantic Topics:

happy, memory, first, last, memories, remember, exiting, crying, beautiful, سعيدة، ذكرى، ذكريات، اول، آخر، أتذكر، تتذكر، متحمس، بكاء، أبكي، جميل، جميلة

Grammatical Structures: 

Subject pronouns, verb conjugation, Adjectives, Question formation, Prepositions.

Products: sharing experiences, emotions, and happy memories.

Practices: Students will engage in the practice of storytelling, and developing speaking and listening skills.

Perspectives: By sharing and listening to each other’s stories, students will develop empathy and a deeper understanding of different cultural perspectives.

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.1: Students engage in conversations or correspondence in Arabic to provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret spoken and written Arabic on a variety of topics.
  • Standard 2.1: Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the cultures of the Arab world.
  • Standard 4.2: Students demonstrate an understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons between the cultures of the Arab world and their own

Idaho Content Standards for World Languages:

  • COMM 1.1: Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions
  • COMM 2.1: Understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.
  • CLTR 1.1: Analyze the cultural practices/patterns of behavior accepted as the societal norm in the target culture.
  • CLTR 1.2: Explain the relationship between cultural practices/behaviors and the perspectives that represent the target culture’s view of the world.

NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements:

  • I can talk about the first things I did in my life, and how it felt.
  • I can talk about the last memories I remember of a specific situation.
  • I can share my best memory with a friend.

Materials Needed:

Warm-Up

  1. Ask each student to think of 3 happy emotions and share them. (for example, happy, excited, love)
    اطلب من كل طالب التفكير في 3 مشاعر سعيدة ومشاركتها. (على سبيل المثال ، سعيد ، متحمس ، حب).

Main Activity

  1. Students will be answering the following questions in Arabic. ask them to read it first, and then read the options of how to answer the question in a full sentence.

What was the first book you read? Who is the author?
What was the last movie you watched? with whom?
Who was your first best friend?
Who was the last person you visited?
What was your first road trip? how was it?
What do you remember about your first day at school?
What was the last car you drove?

سيقوم الطلاب بالإجابة على الأسئلة التالية باللغة العربية. اطلب منهم قراءته أولاً ، ثم اقرأ الخيارات المتعلقة بكيفية الإجابة على السؤال بجملة كاملة.
ماهو أوّل كِتاب قَرَأتهُ؟ مَن المُّؤَلف؟
ماهُو آخِر فِليم شَاهَدته؟ مَع من؟
مَن كان أوّل أفْضَل صَدِيق لَدَيك؟
من هُو آخر شخص زُرْتهُ؟
ماهِي أول رِحْلة طَريق لك؟ كيف كانت؟
ماذا تَتَذَكّر عَن أَول يَوم لكَ فِي المَدْرسة؟
ماهِي آخِر سَيّارة سُقتها؟.

 

Wrap-Up

  1. Ask each student to share a happy memory!
    اسأل كل طالب بأن يشارك ذكرى سعيدة.

End of Activity

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
