Arabic Level 4, Activity 05: “What would you do if…? / ماذا ستفعل لو…؟” (Face-to-Face/Online)

Description:

In this activity, students will practice the future tense and the negation of the future tense, they will be talking about what they will be doing in the future if a specific scenario happens to them, and where they see themselves after 5 years.

Semantic Topics:

تخرج ، مريض، صديق، لذيذاً، مفتاح، سيارة، زميل،سأفعل، لن أفعل ،graduation, years, visit, roommate, friend, key, car, sick

Grammatical Structures: المضارع المرفوع، المضارع المنصوب, future tense, سوف، ان شاء الله, negation of future tense.

Products: future

Practices: reading and answering questions based on different scenarios.

Perspectives: What to do when a specific scenario happens to you?

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.1 :Students engage in conversations or correspondence in Arabic to provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret spoken and written Arabic on a variety of topics.
  • Standard 2.1: Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the cultures of the Arab world.
  • Standard 4.2: Students demonstrate an understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons between the cultures of the Arab world and their own

  • COMM 1.1: Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions

  • CLTR 1.2: Explain the relationship between cultural practices/behaviors and the perspectives that represent the target culture’s view of the world.

Materials Needed:

Warm-Up

  1. students will review the future tense and how it will be used when negation by taking turns reading the 2 tables.
    سيقوم الطلاب بمراجعة زمن المستقبل وكيف سيتم استخدامه عند النفي بالتناوب في قراءة الجدولين.

Main Activity

  1. Each student takes turns reading the provided scenario and then answering the question “what you would do if…” this scenario happened to you.
    يتناوب كل طالب على قراءة السيناريو المقدم ثم الإجابة على السؤال “ماذا ستفعل إذا …” حدث لك هذا السيناريو.
  2. Repeat until all the scenarios are done.
    كرر حتى تنتهي جميع السيناريوهات.

    Wrap-Up

    1. Ask students to share Where do they see themselves after 5 years?
      اطلب من الطلاب  مشاركة أين يرون أنفسهم بعد 5 سنوات؟.

    End of Activity

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
