Arabic Level 4, Activity 04: “where is? / أين؟” (Face-to-Face/Online)

Description:

In this activity, students will practice describing where different objects are in relation to each other. They will also practice using prepositions to describe locations on the map.

Semantic Topics:

Location, map, where, to, from, on, under, with, for, above, in, behind, about, الى، من، على، تحت، مع، فوق، مكان، اين، خريطة

Grammatical Structures: 

Prepositions

Products: maps, location

Practices: Using hand movements/gestures to demonstrate directions.

Perspectives: the importance of effective describing and using prepositions.

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.1 :Students engage in conversations or correspondence in Arabic to provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret spoken and written Arabic on a variety of topics.
  • Standard 2.1: Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the cultures of the Arab world.
  • Standard 4.2: Students demonstrate an understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons between the cultures of the Arab world and their own

Materials Needed:

Warm-Up

  1. take turns with students reading the prepositions table and its meaning.
    تبادل الأدوار مع الطلاب في قراءة جدول حروف الجر ومعانيها.

Main Activity

  1. students will take turns reading the question on the slide, (where is… ), they have to explain it in Arabic and then answer in a full sentence.
    يتناوب الطلاب على قراءة السؤال على الشريحة ، (أين …) ، وعليهم شرحه باللغة العربية ثم الإجابة في جملة كاملة.
  2. the correct answer will show up after your click.
    ستظهر الإجابة الصحيحة بعد نقرك.
  3. repeat until the last slide of the main activity.
    كرر حتى الشريحة الأخيرة من النشاط الرئيسي.

    Wrap-Up

    1. Each student answers one question about where is the country located on the map. try to read the question and then they answer.
      يجيب كل طالب على سؤال واحد حول مكان الدولة الواقعة على الخريطة. حاول قراءة السؤال لهم ثم اجعلهم يجاوبون.

    End of Activity

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
