Business Law: A Risk Management Approach book cover

Business Law: A Risk Management Approach

CC BY-NC-SA (Attribution NonCommercial ShareAlike)   English

Author(s): Jeff Lingwall

Subject(s): Commercial law

Publisher: Boise State University eCampus Center

This book is an introductory text on business law targeted for use in an undergraduate or graduate business school setting. It covers the major areas of law typically taught in a legal environment for business course. This book covers these principles with a simple premise: law for attorneys focuses on finding legal answers, while law for managers focuses on *risk management*. That is, attorneys are trained to find the right legal answer to a question, or to argue that a certain answer ought to be the right one. Managers face a very different question. A company’s course of action will have certain probabilities of various legal consequences which need to be weighed. In that sense, decisions with legal repercussions are like any decision faced by a manager.

The goal of this text is to (1) teach students enough substantive law that they can assess those probabilities, (2) teach students enough procedural law and terminology that they can communicate intelligibly with attorneys, and (3) give a framework and practice in decisionmaking with regard to legal consequences. Note: a Second Edition is available on Pressbooks, at https://boisestate.pressbooks.pub/buslaw2e/.

Spanish Conversation is designed to facilitate opportunities for Spanish students to grow their interpretive and interpersonal communication skills which are necessary for Spanish conversation. This textbook is appropriate for Spanish majors and minors who fall within the range of intermediate-mid to advanced-low oral proficiency. The book is grounded in a theoretical framework in frequency and usage-based linguistics which prioritizes practice and application of the most frequent words and Spanish used in context so that students can participate in real-world tasks in the Spanish-speaking world.  The textbook integrates a wide variety of materials, including podcasts, videos, readings, and realia. These expose students to the rich cultural and linguistic diversity representative of the Spanish-speaking world.

Teachers using this textbook will also have access to rubrics and formative and summative assessments based largely on an Integrated Performance Assessment model but given the scope of the course (Spanish conversation), assessments are limited to the interpretive and interpersonal modes of communication, only.
