What is Presentational Communication?
- Creation of messages to inform, explain, persuade, or narrate
- One-way communication intended to facilitate interpretation by members of the other culture where no direct opportunity for the active negotiation of meaning between members of the two cultures exists
- To ensure the intended audience is successful in its interpretation, the “presenter” needs knowledge of the audience’s language and culture

Artifacts Demonstrating My Presentational Writing Proficiency
The Mirabal Sisters – Peace, Conflict, and Democracy in Latin America
In this assignment, I created an informational presentation about the Mirabal sisters of the Dominican Republic. In doing so, I analyzed the political context surrounding their assassination, which deepened my understanding of Latin American dictatorships and historic injustices. I created this presentation during my semester abroad in Chile, and doing so provided me with the cultural context needed for when I later attended a march for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women; it’s held every year on November 25 in remembrance of the Mirabal sisters.
Chilean Spanish – Advanced Spanish I
In this essay, I analyze the different aspects of Chilean Spanish and what makes it so unique compared to other dialects. It includes historical context, indigenous influence, and an explanation of common slang words. Additionally, I had the opportunity to interview Chileans on their perspective of the different Latin American dialects, which provided me with a deeper understanding of cultural context.
Political Movements of Chile – Peace, Conflict, and Democracy in Latin America
In this assignment, I analyze Chile’s Estallido Social of 2019 and connect it to the country’s dictatorship which lasted from 1973-1990. In doing so, I cover historical and political context, generational trauma, and the importance of memory. Additionally, I include the perspectives of two Chilean’s that I interviewed of different opinions and experiences, which gave me a better insight on the country’s divide between the political Left and Right.
