11 Stipends

Stipends for the OEDS should be aligned to the departmental documents and policies that decide the stipend amounts. In some cases a stipend may not be supported at an institution. A variety of institutions offer stipends ranging from $1500 – $8000. For the OEDS we require five chapters to be created for a stipend of $2000. Parts I and II when both are taken equate to a stipend. Parts III and IV also have individual stipends available. What’s most important is that the stipends align with the work being completed, institutional norms and policies. What works at one institution may not work well at another. Stipends can be calculated in terms of return on investment, such as comparing the expense for stipend to the cost savings for students. Research studies can be conducted to show how the OER use benefited students.
