Warm-Up

Start by asking the students how they would invite someone to an event.

The slide after the Can-Do statements has ways to accept and decline invitations. Go through each way with the students!

Using the invitation slide, invite the students to your event! Give them time, where it will be held, what the students would need to bring, etc.

After you invite them, ask the students: Do you want to go? For either answer, they need to give a reason. So, why they want to go to an event, or what they like about it. And if they can’t go, why not?

Main Activity

Working individually: Let students choose among the invitation cards. Each student is going to choose an invitation that they like and plan to propose the activity to their friends.

Give them a couple of minutes to read, and then the students are going to walk around the room and take turns inviting other students.

You may also have students pair up with another student sitting across from them, instead of having them stand up.

Everyone should accept or reject the invitation. The student being invited should ask questions like, who, what, where, when, how much, what should I bring. They can explain why or why not they want to go.

The Google Slide has example questions the students can ask!

Wrap-Up

Ask students the following questions to finish the activity:

What are you doing this weekend?

What is your favorite hobby?

What is a hobby that you want to start?

End of activity:

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
(Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
