Main Activity:

For this main activity, students will take turns being the shopkeeper and will be shown a virtual store with items from their vocabulary. Each student will go around and ask what something is, what it costs, and thank the shopkeeper. (If you have more advanced students or extra time, you can have them practice buying the object.)

Show the students the instructions slide in English and give them a moment to read through it.

To start the activity, go to the first “store” slide. Pick one student to be the shopkeeper (if you have a stronger student in the lab, this may be a good person to pick). Start off by modeling what you’d like students to do and share your screen:

(Point to an item or use annotate to circle)

The shopkeeper should reply:

  • ….です。

Next, use a location word to ask how much it costs:

  • (location word)…

The shopkeeper should reply with the price:

  • ….です

Last, the customer should thank the shopkeeper and if they feel comfortable, buy the object.

  • OR

Now the next customer (student) will go and share their screen to help signal what they’d like to buy.

Repeat this process two times per store, then change the slide. (If you have more than six students, you may need to keep the last store slide up longer.)

If you have extra time, go through the activity again!

Wrap-Up;

Ask students what their favorite store is! They may need definitions for 店 and 一番.

    their confidence.
  • (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
