Explain what language labs are and what to expect during the semester by using the slideshow located in the Japanese 101 Lab 1 Folder on the Team Drive. For 101 labs, explain the expectations for labs in English to make sure everyone understands clearly.
- 「Japanese 101 Lab 1 Folder」 にあるスライドショーを使って、ラボのこととラボに期待することを説明する。101ラボは、全員がわかるため、英語でラボの期待を説明してください。
At the end of the slideshow, have the students play Kahoot to test them on lab requirements. Information on Kahoot is listed below.
- スライドショーが終わったら、ラボの必要なことをKahootでクイズする。Kahootの情報は下にある。
Transition into Japanese by showing your introduction collage and speaking about yourself. Be sure to model and use other techniques during your introduction to help the students understand.
- 日本語に移行するために自分のコラージュを学生に見せて、写真にあることを説明する。学生がわかるように自己紹介中に他の手法を使っておく。
If there’s time, have students take turns and tell their name, their major, and any other information they feel comfortable sharing with everyone else in Japanese.
- 時間があれば、学生を日本語で自分の名前、専攻、そして面白いこと(学生が)をみんなに。。。。(to be continued!)
For Kahoot Game
If it doesn’t take you directly to the “Week 1 lab rules game” Kahoot page, you can search for it on the profile page or through the search engine.
- 「Week 1 lab rules game」kahootページに直接に繋げなければ、プロフィールページに探すか、サーチエンジンで探せばいい。
Main Activity
Start off by giving an introduction. Ask each student to give a small introduction (it may only be by name, the classes haven’t really covered name, major, or full sentences. If they can only do English, that’s okay).
紹介することから始めます。各生徒に簡単な紹介をしてもらいます(名前だけの場合もありますが、クラスでは名前、専攻、全文が実際にはカバーされていません。英語しかできない場合は問題ありません)。
We might have to look up/teach the student’s major. This is okay! This may be a learning opportunity for everyone.
学生の専攻を調べたり教えたりする必要があるかもしれません。これは大丈夫です!これは誰にとっても学習の機会かもしれません。
Once everybody has introduced themselves a little bit, have students provide some Japanese words they already know.
みんなが少し自己紹介をしたら、生徒にすでに知っている日本語の単語を教えてもらいます。
- Ask each student for a Japanese word.
-
各生徒に日本語の単語を聞いてください。
- Write it on the board (remote labs: in the Zoom chat) in hiragana.
-
ボードにひらがな(リモートラボ:ズームチャット)に書き込みます。
Wrap Up:
Send Students off saying , “また来週” and check for understanding.
生徒が帰る前に「また来週!」と言ってください。 理解度をチェックします。
End of Activity:
- Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
their confidence.- (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
- Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
- Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
Culture Notes
にほんじんのなまえ Japanese Names
When Japanese give their name, they say their family name first and given name last. When introducing themselves, they often say only their family name. Most Japanese names are written in Kanji. Family names are often related to nature or geographical features. Because many kanji share the same reading, names with the same pronunciation may be written with different kanji.
