Japanese Level 2, Activity #10: “Heads Up” / “ヘッドスアップ” (Face-to-Face)

 Description:

In this activity, students will play a game of Heads Up and guess who. Students will practice discussing and reviewing descriptions of people.

Warm-Up

Students will pair up to play guess who by using the guess who cards. Everyone will choose a character on the guess who cards, and one person will ask a yes or no question about the other person’s character. After the other person answers, they can use a dry erase marker or pencil to cross off the characters that are not relevant. If they are confident, the person can guess their partner’s character.

  • 「ペアになって皆さんはゲスフーのキャラクターを選んでください。一人はパートナーのキャラクターについて「はいかいいえ」質問を聞いてください。パートナーが答えた後で、一人は無関係なキャラクターをチェックします。強気であれば、一人がパートナーのキャラクターをゲスできます。」

Main Activity

Students will play Heads Up! Set up the game by facing the cards upside down.

学生は「ヘッドスアップ」をします!まずは、カードを裏返します。

One person from the team will be the guesser. They will have the cards above their head.

  • 一人が推測者になります。その人は頭の上にカードを持ちます。」

There will be two ways to play this gesture game: acting or describing.

このジェスチャーゲームには2つのやり方があります。演技または説明です。

The blue words on the cards are verbs. The rest of the team will use gestures to describe the word, but they can’t talk.

  • 「カードの青い言葉は動詞です。言葉を説明するためにチームが話さないでジェスチャーをします。」

The yellow words on the cards are nouns. The rest of the team will describe the word using Japanese, but they can’t use gestures.

  • 「カードの黄色い言葉は名詞です。言葉を説明するためにチームが日本語で説明するけど、ジェスチャーはできません。」

The one person who is guessing has to answer using Japanese.

  • 「推測している人は日本語で答えなければなりません。」

Wrap-Up

Ask them questions about their family members and friends and what they are like.

彼らの生活の中で家族と友達について質問します。

What kind of person is ___?

  • 「誰々はどんな人ですか?」

Please explain the personalities of your family and friends.

  • 「家族と友達の性格を説明してください。」

End of Lab

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future labs!
