Japanese Level 4, Activity #11: “Picnic Planning” / “ピクニック計画” (Online)

Description:
Students will learn to plan an outing with their peers including various details.
Semantic Topics:
Grammar, tenses, picnic, planning, conversation, 文法, 時制, ピクニック, 計画, 会話
NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements:

  • I can talk about experiences using appropriate grammar and tense.
  • I can make arrangements with a peer detailing what, when, and where we are planning.

Materials Needed:

Warm-Up:

Discuss the following prompts:

  • Have you ever had a picnic?
  • What would you do if you went on a picnic now?
  • Who would you want to take?
  • What food and drink do you want to bring?
  • Where do you want to go on a picnic?
  • What would you like to discuss about preparing for a picnic?
  • ピクニックしたことがある?
  • 今ピクニックに行けば何をする?
    • 誰を連れて行きたい?
    • 何の食べ物と飲み物を持っていきたい?
    • どこにピクニックをしに行きたい?
  • ピクニックの準備についてどんな事を相談する?

Main Activity:

Students will get into pairs to plan an outing of their choice. They need to decide a specific date, time, location, and set of activities.

ペアでピクニックの計画を立てる。日付、時間、場所、活動、などを決めるべきです。

Discuss what their plans are when time is up.

終わる前に、立てた計画について話し合います。

End of activity

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
