Japanese Level 5, Activity #1: “Likes and Dislikes” / “好き嫌い” (Face-to-Face)

Description:

Students will be introduced to the structure of language labs. They will also practice introducing themselves and discussing other topics.

Semantic Topics:

Introductions, hobbies, likes, dislikes, 紹介, 趣味, 好き, 嫌い

NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements:

  • I can introduce myself.
  • I can ask and answer questions about familiar topics such as my hobbies, likes, dislikes, etc.

Warm-Up:

Ask the students if they did language labs at Boise State last semester.

  • 学生に「先学期はボイシ州立大学でラボに参加していましたか」と聞いてみます。

If so, this section can be skipped.

  • 参加したなら、この分をスキップしていいです。

If not, use the Japanese 101 Lab 1 slideshow to introduce them to the WLRC and language labs in general. Then quiz them using Kahoot.

  • ないなら、WLRCと言語ラボを紹介ために日本語101ラボ第一のスライドショーを使ってカフートでクイズします。

Main Activity:

Activity assistant will first introduce themselves. Then have each student also give an introduction.

  • 最初はアシスタントは自己紹介をします。それから、学生は自己紹介もします。

This week’s topic is simply getting to know one another. Ask about hobbies, likes, dislikes, etc.

  • 今週のトピックはただ、お互いを知ることです。趣味や好きなことや好きじゃないことなどについて聞きます。

End of activity

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
