Japanese Level 5, Activity #3: “Interviews” / “インタビュー” (Face-to-Face)

Description:

Students will interview each other.

Materials Needed:

Warm-up

  1. Run through two or so of the 四字熟語 and somehow have them either guess their meaning or try to use them in the appropriate context.
    1. 四字熟語 they might be able to guess better:
      1. 一石二鳥
      2. Hopefully more?? I had a hard time finding 四字熟語 that had 漢字 that the students understood as well as a meaning that was easily decipherable from the 漢字. Take a look, see if you have better luck!

Main Activity

  1. The students will conduct a mock interview in pairs.
  2. One student will become the interviewer and the other will be the interviewee.
  3. The interviewer will choose two to three questions from the question list to ask the interviewee.
  4. The interviewee will answer in detail.
  5. Once they are done, they will switch roles and do it again.
  6. At the end, the students will announce whether they would actually hire their partner.

End of activity:

  • Read can-do statements and have students evaluate their confidence with cards.
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
