Materials Needed:

Warm-Up

  1. Show a product for certain holidays and celebrations.
    Instructions in the target language.
  2. Students will guess what holiday or celebration it’s for.
    Instructions in the target language.

    • Make sure to blank out anything that gives away the holiday / celebration.

Main Activity

  1. Choose a Japanese festival / celebration and a product.
    Instructions in the target language.
  2. Make a limited edition version of the product for the chosen festival / celebration.
    Instructions in the target language.
  3. Students will explain in details what their product will look like.
    Instructions in the target language.

    • Ex. How and why they packaged a product a certain way. What flavor, color, etc. will the product have.
  4. Ex. Make a chocolate drink for Valentine’s Day. The bottle will be pink with a lot of hearts on it.

Wrap-Up

  1. What did you do during spring break?
    春休みに何をしましたか? (I know I’m a week late for this question, but forgot to ask!)
  2. What would you have done if you could do anything during spring break?
    もし春休みに何でもできたとしたら何をしましたか?
  3. What do you do during the summer vacation?
    夏休みは何をしますか?
  4. What do you want to do during the summer vacation?
    夏休みに何をしたいですか?

End of Activity

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
