Materials Needed:

Warm-Up

Never Have I Ever.

  1. Students will take turns coming up with questions on something they can or cannot do using 〜ことが出来る.
    Instructions in the target language.
  2. The goal of this activity is to get the other students out.
    Instructions in the target language.

    1. Students will try to think of questions that will not get them out.
    2. Everyone has 5 strikes until they’re out.

Main Activity

  1. Students will now give suggestions to the situation addressed in the slides using 「〜ば」.
    Instructions in the target language.
  2. Ex. The school is closed. What should you do?
    Instructions in the target language.

    1. You should go home and sleep.
    2. 学校が休校です。どうせればいいですか?
    3. If school is closed, you can go home and sleep.
    4. 学校が休みなら、家で寝てればいい.

Wrap-Up

  1. What I can do today?
    今日中にできることは何ですか?
  2. What can I do during the week?
    今週中にできることは何ですか?
  3. What can I do this month?
    今月中にできることは何ですか?
  4. What can I do during this semester?
    今学期中にできることは何ですか?
  5. What can I do this year?
    今年中にできることは何ですか?
  6. What can I do before I die?
    死ぬ前にできることは何ですか?

End of Activity

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
