Introduction

Rob Nyland, Ph.D.

Emerging Research in Online Learning is a collection of research reports created by participants of the eCampus Faculty Research Fellowship at Boise State University’s eCampus Center.  The Faculty Research Fellowship program was adopted with permission from a similar program that was run by the Oregon State University ECampus Research Unit. As part of the program, each accepted faculty applicant was given a $5000 grant to support their research in online learning environments.  The goals of the fellowship are to:

  • Support the growth of actionable research into online learning at Boise State;
  • Create bridges between online faculty and the services of the Research and Innovation Team;
  • Promote effective assessment of online learning at the course and program levels at Boise State;
  • Support Boise State online students’ success and retention through evidence-based practices;
  • Improve and inform Boise State online scholarship and practices.

It is our hope that this collection will help contribute to the growing body of evidence around effect online teaching and learning practices.
