This can be useful to a language major to learn the perspective of others and how to communicate within different cultures to understand and create a comfortable environment professionally.

It might be helpful to take upper-level language courses and obtain either a minor or major in a language. It also may be worth doing a study abroad program to further my skills.

Proficiency in a language is important to be able to connect and communicate with patients of different cultural backgrounds. Having proficiency in a language allows for basic and important communication to occur. Therefore, having skillsets in another language allows us in our profession to appreciate and value to be able to fully connect with groups of different cultural backgrounds. This not only creates better means of communication but it helps develop real relationships and improves the way one handles their profession.
How is the ability to communicate and work with people from different cultural backgrounds useful or important in this position?
It’s important to have an understanding of where and how different cultures handle and understand things. To be able to communicate with them not only creates a healthy and comfortable environment but allows for proficient communication which is a necessity. It is important to allow the people that we may come into contact with to feel comfortable and accepted especially in a professional setting. This not only improves relationships with the community but it allows for a better and smoother working environment.

This job allows for social connection with individuals of all ages and backgrounds as well as the ability to help and change lives for the better. I can communicate with those of different cultural backgrounds to understand and help their needs. I will be able to use my language skills and combine them with my medical education to provide a place the community can go to for help within the dentistry field.
