About the Position
As a solar consultant at VITL Power, I would be a part of a team that is passionate about clean energy, and willing to go the extra mile to make the world a better place. I would have the opportunity to interact with people across different neighborhoods and offer them an energy solution that not only is efficient for them but the environment as well. During the career exploration process, I learned that multiple companies are looking for bilingual employees; this encourages me that I will be able to find a position that values the effort I’ve put into learning Spanish. This position is interesting to me because I would be able to help others and the world as a whole at the same time.

Having experience in sales, preferably in the energy industry, is necessary in order to step into this role. Proven leadership skills are important as well, to push to achieve goals.

Being bilingual is a massive advantage in this position since that would open up a whole new world of clients for the company. This is where language majors would be able to reap the benefits of learning another language.

Being a leader, and having extensive knowledge of solar energy are important for success in this field, as well as people skills and customer service experience.
What might be helpful to prepare for a language major to prepare for this field or position (think about courses at Boise State, graduate school/certificates, other types of PD, internships, work experience, etc.)?
I believe that completing a language degree would be helpful, to maximize the efficiency of speaking a language. Interning at a local energy company to get a basic knowledge of solar energy would be advantageous as well.
How is proficiency in another language useful or important in this position?
Proficiency in another language would allow for more clients that would otherwise be inaccessible. I’d be able to interact with other Spanish-speaking individuals, and hopefully be able to bring more business in with Spanish-speaking clientele. I could be the person that the company relies on to lead the charge in these situations, and would allow me to put my degree to good use. It would also be very rewarding as a Latino to be able to help with my culture’s native language.
How is the ability to communicate and work with people from different cultural backgrounds useful or important in this position?
Being able to communicate across different cultures would be important since clean energy is something that would help people of all cultures. Everyone on this planet, no matter their culture, needs a clean environment to survive. In this way, the company is relevant to everyone, meaning that it has the opportunity to foster community engagement across different groups of people. It would not only serve the environment well but communities across the country as well.
