Spanish Immersion Preschool Teacher, Suntree Language Academy

About the Position 

Suntree academy is a private academy for language immersion in 8 languages here in Boise. Including Spanish. For this specific position as a preschool teacher you would be working full time, Monday through Friday 8 hours a day. You would basically have the role of being a mother figure to a classroom of 3–6-year-olds. You will be caring for them and cleaning. You must also be able to drive them to the park. All this while speaking only Spanish.

Speaking Spanish is a minimum requirement for this position. You must also be able to communicate well with co-workers, parents, and students. Must be able to provide immunization record

Summarize the Preferred Qualifications and emphasize the skills relevant to language majors.

Bachelor’s Degree, 1 year experience as a teacher and/or childcare professional, at least 18 years of age, exceptional communication, teaching and interpersonal skills, strong understanding of the different stages of childhood development, attentive to the needs and safety of children, patience and stamina to monitor, teach and chase after, lift or carry children.

What are some other skills that are important for success in this field? 

The most important skills for this job are good communication skills, the ability to speak Spanish well, and patience.

What might be helpful to prepare for a language major to prepare for this field or position?

Taking education classes, early child development classes, and maybe volunteering with younger kids would be helpful to prepare you for this job. They do prefer one year of experience working with kids. Get CPR certified and consider a certificate in Child development.

How is proficiency in another language useful or important in this position?

Proficiency in another language is necessary for this position as you need to speak in Spanish to the children all day long.

How is the ability to communicate and work with people from different cultural backgrounds useful or important in this position?

You will be working with many kids who will probably come from many different backgrounds. You will need to understand and respect cultural differences that they have at home. You will also need to communicate with their parents. The ability to communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds will be very important for this position.
