The requirements are having you BSN and having at least one year of experience working in a hospital setting. Having your BSL and ACLS isn’t a requirement but it would make you a better candidate for the position.

Having empathy, good verbal communication, being willing to help, and being able to stand up for yourself

What might be helpful to prepare for a language major to prepare for this field or position (think about courses at Boise State, graduate school/certificates, other types of PD, internships, work experience, etc.)? 

Being able to translate into the other language.

How is proficiency in another language useful or important in this position?

It will help you communicate with patients who may not speak English, or may not understand it very well.

How is the ability to communicate and work with people from different cultural backgrounds useful or important in this position?

You will be able to understand what they are trying to say and what health problems they might be having and you will be able to help them.

Anything else interesting to share about the position?

Traveling around the world while getting paid and getting to help others will make this job worth it.


About the author

My name is Yareli Huitron. I am a student at Boise State University and  a first-generation college student. I’m majoring in Nursing, Health Studies, and Spanish. I have lived in Idaho all of my life. I want to pursue a career in the medical field as a registered nurse. Being bilingual will allow me to help more people.
