40 What are challenges to the Core Value Model?

The Core Values Model can be straightforward and simple to apply, yet it may ignore outcomes, and does not provide guidance on balancing competing virtues.

The downsides to the Core Values Model are similar to those from virtue ethics. It may be difficult to balance competing virtues: what should we do when fairness contradicts caring, for instance? It may also ignore the outcomes of a particular decision in the name of applying virtues.

  1. Apply the Core Values Model to the trolley problem. Does this provide any insights?
