🏀 Spanish Level 1, Activity 11: ¿Qué haces en tu tiempo libre? / What Do You do in Your Free Time? (Online)

Description: In this activity, the students will discuss their hobbies and what they like to do in their free time. They will practice asking and answering questions related to popular activities.
Semantic Topics: Pastimes, preferences, hobbies, free time activities, common verbs, preferencias, pasatiempos, tiempo libre, actividades, verbos comununes
Grammatical Topics: Verbs like gustar, verbos como gustar
Products: Flamenco dancing, football
Practices: Participating in sports, dances, and pastimes
Perspectives: What kinds of pastimes are common in other places?

World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.1 Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • Standard 1.2 Students understand and interpret spoken and written Spanish on a variety of topics.
  • Standard 1.3 Students present information, concepts, and ideas in Spanish to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics.

Idaho Content Standards for World Languages:

  • COMM 1.1 – Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions
  • COMP 1.1 – Observe formal and informal forms of language.
  • COMM 2.1 – Understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.
  • COMM 3.1 – Present information, concepts, and ideas to inform, explain, persuade, and narrate on a variety of topics using appropriate media in the target language.

Warm Up

Materials Needed for Warm Up

  1. Begin by opening the slideshow and introducing the can-do statements.
    Hola, ¿cómo están? Estoy ____. Vamos a empezar el lab de hoy con los can-do statements.
  2. Using the linked Kahoot, students will use the clues to guess the activity.
    Ahora, vamos a jugar un Kahoot. Necesitan adivinar la actividad basada en las pistas. 

Main Activity

Materials Needed for Main Activity

  1. The slides have a photo at the top and then a list of questions below. Start by choosing a question from the slide and asking a student the chosen question.
    Voy a preguntar una pregunta de la diapositiva a una estudiante
  2. The student who answers then picks another student to ask another question from the slide, repeating this process as long as time allows.
    Después de responder, elige una pregunta para un otro estudiante. Continua a preguntar en esta manera. 

Wrap Up

  1. On the slide show, there are 8 questions to choose from for the wrap up.
    Vamos a terminar con pocas más preguntas para toda la clase.

End of Lab

  • Read can-do statements and have students evaluate their confidence
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future labs!

  • Customize the content for a specific audience or group of learners (for example, K-5 learners or to differentiate for student’s needs)
