Arabic Level 3, Activity 03: “Talking about Myself&Others / اتكلم عن نفسي والآخرين” (Face-to-Face/Online)

Description:

In this activity, students will be practicing how to talk about themselves after reviewing the possessive pronouns, and then they will read a character card and share information about them.

Semantic Topics:

intrducing my self, name, nationality, age, hobby, job, chess,  color, study, اعرف بنفسي، الاسم، الجنسية، العمر، الوظيفة، الشطرنج، الهواية، اللون المفضل.

Grammatical Structures:

Possessive Pronouns – ضمائر الملكية

Products: introducing myself and discussing simple information.

Practices: identifying information about others from a character card.

Perspectives: What is the value of getting to know people and having a small conversation?

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.1: Students engage in conversations or correspondence in Arabic to provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret spoken and written Arabic on a variety of topics.
  • Standard 2.1: Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the cultures of the Arab world.
  • Standard 4.2: Students demonstrate an understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons between the cultures of the Arab world and their own

Idaho Content Standards for World Languages:

  • COMM 1.1: Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions
  • COMM 2.1: Understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.
  • CLTR 1.1: Analyze the cultural practices/patterns of behavior accepted as the societal norm in the target culture.
  • CLTR 1.2: Explain the relationship between cultural practices/behaviors and the perspectives that represent the target culture’s view of the world.

NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements:

  • I can talk about myself with a friend/classmate.
  • I can ask and answer questions about work and my favorite activities.
  • I can share my hobby/work/where I live with someone.

Materials Needed:

Warm-Up

  1. Students will be reading the Possessive Pronouns table as a class.
    سيقوم الطلاب جميعهم بقراءة جدول ضمائر الملكية.
  2. after that ask them to introduce themselves or talk about 3-4 facts about themselves.
    بعد ذلك اطلب منهم تقديم أنفسهم أو التحدث عن 3-4 حقائق عن أنفسهم.

Main Activity

  1. You will assign a character card for each student.
    سوف تقوم بتعيين بطاقة شخص  لكل طالب.
  2. the student will take turns reading their character card, and then share 2-3 facts about the character.
    يتناوب الطالب على قراءة بطاقة شخصيته ، ثم يشارك 2-3 حقائق عن الشخصية.
  3. have each student ask one question another student about her/his character. for example, how old is Khalid? what is Yusra’s favorite color?
    اطلب من كل طالب أن يسأل طالبًا آخر عن شخصيته. مثلا كم عمر خالد؟ ما هو لون يسرى المفضل؟.

    Wrap-Up

    1. let students choose 1-2 of their classmates and ask them the following in Arabic, where do you live? what is your favorite hobby? what do you work?
      دع الطلاب يختارون 1-2 من زملائهم في الفصل ويسألونهم ما يلي باللغة العربية ، أين تعيش؟ ما هى هوايتك المفضلة؟ ماذا تعمل؟.

    End of Activity

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Please encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
