Arabic Level 3, Activity 04: “Numbers / الأرقام” (Face-to-Face/Online)

Description:

In this activity, students will practice Arabic numbers from 1 to 50. they will be able to accurately pronounce them, as well as perform basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) using Arabic numbers.

Semantic Topics:

1 – 50, numbers, math, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, problems, plus, minus, equals, divided, by, ١ – ٥٠، الأرقام، الرياضيات، القسمة، الضرب، الجمع، الطرح، زائد، ناقص، يساوي.

Grammatical Structures: Nouns, verbs, Prepositions,  Sentence structure.

Products: numbers, math, basic arithmetic operations.

Practices: perform basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) to become comfortable with the Arabic number system.

Perspectives: provide students with a foundational understanding of Arabic numbers and arithmetic operations

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.1: Students engage in conversations or correspondence in Arabic to provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret spoken and written Arabic on a variety of topics.
  • Standard 2.1: Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the cultures of the Arab world.
  • Standard 4.2: Students demonstrate an understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons between the cultures of the Arab world and their own

  • COMM 1.1: Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions
  • COMM 2.1: Understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.
  • CLTR 1.1: Analyze the cultural practices/patterns of behavior accepted as the societal norm in the target culture.
  • CLTR 1.2: Explain the relationship between cultural practices/behaviors and the perspectives that represent the target culture’s view of the world.

Materials Needed:

Warm-Up

  1. take turns reading with students the numbers from 1 – 50, and how to read the arithmetic operations in Arabic.
    تناوبوا على قراءة الأرقام من ١-٥٠ مع الطلاب وكيفية قراءة العمليات الحسابية باللغة العربية.

Main Activity

  1. In pairs or breakout rooms, each pair of students will be given an arithmetic problem Card written in Arabic numbers, their job is to solve the problems.
    في غرف منفردة على زوم أو كل طالبين ، سيتم منحهم بطاقة عمليات حسابية مكتوبة بأرقام عربية ، وتتمثل مهمتهم في حل المشكلات.
  2. The team who finishes first is the winner.
    الفريق الذي ينتهي أولاً هو الفائز.

    Wrap-Up

    1. by the end, each pair will compare their answers to the correct answer cards, and then the lab assistant will announce the winning team.
      في النهاية ، سيقارن كل زوج إجاباتهم ببطاقات الإجابة الصحيحة  ثم أعلن عن الفريق الفائز

    End of Activity

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
