Arabic Level 3, Activity 08: “My Schedule/جَدْوَلي” (Face-to-Face/Online)

In this activity, students will practice talking about the days of the week, they will also discuss their daily and monthly schedules, and ask others how they spend their weekends.

Grammatical Structures: 

Days of the week, Present tense, Question forms.

Products:  a chart or calendar of the days of the week, sentences describing daily schedules, and conversation related to weekend plans and daily routines.

Practices: Speaking and listening in Arabic, They will practice using new vocabulary and grammar structures to talk about their schedules and ask questions about others’ schedules.

Perspectives: Students may develop a deeper understanding of the importance of time management and how to plan their days effectively. They may also gain a new perspective on the different ways people spend their weekends and the role of time in Arabic culture.

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.1: Students engage in conversations or correspondence in Arabic to provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret spoken and written Arabic on a variety of topics.
  • Standard 2.1: Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the cultures of the Arab world.
  • Standard 4.2: Students demonstrate an understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons between the cultures of the Arab world and their own

Idaho Content Standards for World Languages:

  • COMM 1.1: Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions
  • COMM 2.1: Understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.
  • CLTR 1.1: Analyze the cultural practices/patterns of behavior accepted as the societal norm in the target culture.
  • CLTR 1.2: Explain the relationship between cultural practices/behaviors and the perspectives that represent the target culture’s view of the world.

NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements:

  • I can ask someone “What day is today?”
  • I can ask someone about his/her weekend.

Materials Needed:

Warm-Up

  1. Read with students the days of the week, and read the questions: what day is today? how would we say (weekend)? in Arabic. ask students to answer and try to guess.اقرأ مع الطلاب أيام الأسبوع ، واقرأ الأسئلة: ما هو اليوم؟ كيف نقول (weekend)؟ بالعربية. اطلب من الطلاب الإجابة ومحاولة التخمين.

Main Activity

  1. Assign to each student a character. you will be asking each student about the character’s schedule, students will answer according to the character’s schedule that was assigned to them.قم بتعيين شخصية لكل طالب. سوف تسأل كل طالب عن الجدول اليومي للشخصية ، وسوف يجيب الطلاب وفقًا لجدول الشخصيات الذي تم تعيينه لهم.
  2. Repeat until all students have participated.
    كرر حتى يشارك جميع الطلاب.

    Wrap-Up

    1. ask students, “What is your favorite day of the week?” “How would like to spend your weekend?” in Arabic.
      اسأل الطلاب بالعربية، “ما هو يومك المفضل في الأسبوع؟” “كيف ترغب في قضاء عطلة نهاية الأسبوع؟”.

    End of Activity

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
