👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Arabic Level 3, Activity 06: “Family/العائِلة” (Face-to-Face/Online)

Description:

In this activity, students will practice talking about their family members, their ages, and what they do. they will also ask questions about family, and talk about their favorite place at home.

Semantic Topics: family, home, father, mother, sister, brother, members, work, عائلة، بيت، ابي، امي، اخي، اختي عمل، مهنة، فرد، أفراد

Grammatical Structures: Possessive pronouns, Question forms, Adjectives, verb conjugation.

Products: complete sentences, questions, and short paragraphs that describe family members and favorite places at home.

Practices: speaking and listening, practicing communicating in Arabic about family members. promoting cultural awareness and respect for different family structures and traditions.

Perspectives: students may develop a deeper understanding of the importance of family and the role it plays in Arabic culture. They may also gain a new perspective on how to describe and talk about family members and the home environment.

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.1: Students engage in conversations or correspondence in Arabic to provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret spoken and written Arabic on a variety of topics.
  • Standard 2.1: Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the cultures of the Arab world.
  • Standard 4.2: Students demonstrate an understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons between the cultures of the Arab world and their own

Idaho Content Standards for World Languages:

  • COMM 1.1: Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions
  • COMM 2.1: Understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.
  • CLTR 1.1: Analyze the cultural practices/patterns of behavior accepted as the societal norm in the target culture.
  • CLTR 1.2: Explain the relationship between cultural practices/behaviors and the perspectives that represent the target culture’s view of the world.

NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements:

  • I can talk about the number of family members and their ages.
  • I can ask others about their family members.
  • I can talk about my favorite place at home and my family’s.
  • I can talk about what each of my family members does/work.

Materials Needed:

Warm-Up

  1. students will ask each other and answer the questions on slide #4 about family.
    سيسأل الطلاب بعضهم البعض ويجيبون على الأسئلة الموجودة في الشريحة رقم 4 حول الأسرة.
  2. explain the activity for them by reading the paragraph on slide #5, ask students to take turns reading each sentence.
    ،اشرح لهم النشاط من خلال قراءة الفقرة الموجودة في الشريحة رقم 5  واطلب من الطلاب التناوب على قراءة كل جملة

Main Activity

  1. ask students to choose 2 of their family members to talk about.
    اطلب من الطلاب اختيار 2 من أفراد أسرهم للتحدث عنهم.
  2. then, ask students to choose a job for wach one of them.
    ثم اطلب من الطلاب اختيار وظيفة لكل واحد منهم.
  3. Now, putting it all together, ask students to share what they wrote about their family members.
    الآن ، بعد تجميع كل ذلك ، اطلب من الطلاب مشاركة ما كتبوه عن أفراد أسرهم.

    Wrap-Up

    1. ask students, to share 2 things about the family on slide #9
      اسأل الطلاب بالعربية.
      شاركوا شيئين عن هذه العائلة

    End of Activity

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
