❔Arabic Level 4, Activity 06: “3 Reasons Why? / ٣ أسباب لماذا؟” (Face-to-Face/Online)

Description:

In this activity, students will read different situations/scenarios, with a partner they will try to come up with 3 different solutions and multiple reasons explaining WHY did this happen. 

Semantic Topics:

because, because of, for the purpose of, in order to, بسبب، لي، لأن why, لماذا,

Grammatical Structures: 

Why?, لماذا؟ The nominal sentence,  الجملة الاسمية

Products: question and reason.

Practices: interacting with a partner to come up with solutions.

Perspectives: being able to find more than one reason is important and would help in enhancing problem-solving skills with the targeted language.

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.1: Students engage in conversations or correspondence in Arabic to provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret spoken and written Arabic on a variety of topics.
  • Standard 2.1: Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the cultures of the Arab world.
  • Standard 4.2: Students demonstrate an understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons between the cultures of the Arab world and their own

Idaho Content Standards for World Languages:

  • COMM 1.1: Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions
  • COMM 2.1: Understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.
  • CLTR 1.1: Analyze the cultural practices/patterns of behavior accepted as the societal norm in the target culture.
  • CLTR 1.2: Explain the relationship between cultural practices/behaviors and the perspectives that represent the target culture’s view of the world.

NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements:

  • I can read a situation and understand it.
  • I can come up with different solutions with a partner.
  • I can give multiple reasons based on a situation.

Materials Needed:

Warm-Up

  1. you will be explaining the different ways of answering the question WHY? by reading the table.
    سوف تشرح الطرق المختلفة للإجابة على السؤال لماذا؟ بقراءة الجدول.
  2. give the students a chance to read the examples, and take some notes.
    امنح الطلاب الفرصة لقراءة الأمثلة ، وأن يأخذوا بعض الملاحظات.

Main Activity

  1. In pairs, students will take turns reading the situation provided, and come up with 3 reasons why.
    في أزواج ، يتناوب الطلاب على قراءة الموقف المقدم ، ويخرجون بثلاثة أسباب.
  2. You can do the first one as an example.
    يمكنك أن تفعل الأول كمثال.
  3. Repeat until the end of the situations slides.
    كرر حتى نهاية المواقف.

    Wrap-Up

    1. Ask students, to answer one of the 3 questions:  What is your favorite food? Why?. What is your favorite hobby? Why?. What was the worst book you have ever read? Why?.
      اطلب من الطلاب الإجابة على أحد الأسئلة الثلاثة: ما هو طعامك المفضل؟ لماذا؟. ما هى هوايتك المفضلة؟ لماذا؟. ما هو أسوأ كتاب قرأته؟ لماذا؟.

    End of Activity

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
