Description:

In this activity, students will practice food flavor in the form of asking and answering three questions about what is the flavor. the location of the plate (propositions) and the opposites flavors, and talk about their favorite food flavor in Arabic.

Semantic Topics:

Salted, sour, sweet, bitter, chili, spicy, savory, bland, مالح، حامض، حلو، مر، حار، لاذع، عديم النكهة

Grammatical Structures: 

Propositions, oppistites.

Products: Food flavors

Practices: Sharing favorite food flavors.

Perspectives: Enhance food value in Middle Eastern culture.

Materials Needed:

Warm-Up

  1. with students, list the food flavors they are familiar with. in both English and Arabic
    مع الطلاب ، ضع قائمة بالنكهات الغذائية المألوفة لديهم. باللغتين الإنجليزية والعربية
  2. let students take turns reading the slide that represents the food flavors.
    دع الطلاب يتناوبون في قراءة الشريحة التي تمثل نكهات الطعام.

Main Activity

  1. students will partner up and will be answering 3 questions based on the image they see. What is the flavor? Where do you see it? What is its opposite?
    سيجيب الطلاب على 3 أسئلة بناءً على الصورة التي يرونها. مَا هِي النّكهة؟ أيْن تراها؟ ما هو عَكسُها؟.
  2. each pair will take turns answering the questions.
    يتناوب كل اثنين في الإجابة على الأسئلة.
  3. repeat until the slides finish.
    كرر حتى تنتهي الشرائح..

    Wrap-Up

    1. Ask students to share their favorite food flavor.
      اسأل الطلاب، ماهي نكهتك المفضلة؟.

    End of Activity

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
    their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
