Description:

In this activity, students will try to explain a vocabulary or concepts without using a specific word. Students will utilize other vocabulary or descriptions to communicate their message.

Semantic Topics:

Taboo(ํƒ€๋ถ€) job promotion(์Šน์ง„), interview(๋ฉด์ ‘), graduate school(์กธ์—…), memory(๊ธฐ์–ต)

World-Readiness Standards:

  • STANDARD 1.1 Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • STANDARD 1.2 Students understand and interpret written and spoken Korean on a variety of topics.
  • STANDARD 1.3 Students present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics.
  • STANDARD 3.2 Students acquire information and recognize the distinctive viewpoints that are only available through the Korean language and cultures.

Idaho Content Standards for World Languages:

  • COMM 1.1 – Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions.
  • COMM 2.1 – Understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.

Materials Needed:ย 

Warm-Up:

1. Begin by introducing theย Can-Dosย for todayโ€™s activity.
์˜ค๋Š˜์˜ ํ•™์Šต๋ชฉํ‘œ๋ฅผ ์†Œ๊ฐœํ•˜๋Š” ๊ฒƒ์œผ๋กœ ์ˆ˜์—…์„ ์‹œ์ž‘ํ•˜์„ธ์š”.

2. Students will discuss the following questions.
์•„๋ž˜์˜ ์งˆ๋ฌธ์— ๋Œ€ํ•ด ์ด์•ผ๊ธฐํ•ด ๋ด…์‹œ๋‹ค.

  • What are you planning to do over the break?
  • ๋ฐฉํ•™ ๋™์•ˆ์— ์–ด๋–ค ํ™œ๋™์„ ํ•  ๊ฑด๊ฐ€์š”?
  • Is there a goal that you want to achieve by the end of the break?
  • ๋ฐฉํ•™์ด ๋๋‚˜๊ธฐ ์ „์— ์ด๋ฃจ๊ณ  ์‹ถ์€ ๋ชฉํ‘œ๊ฐ€ ์žˆ๋‚˜์š”?

Main Activity:

  1. Place theย taboo cardsย in the center of the table.
    ํƒ€๋ถ€ ์นด๋“œ๋ฅผ ํ…Œ์ด๋ธ” ์œ„์— ๋†“์œผ์„ธ์š”.
  2. A student will pick a card one at a time.
    ์นด๋“œ๋ฅผ ํ•˜๋‚˜์”ฉ ๋ฝ‘์œผ์„ธ์š”.
  3. Only the student who picked the card will be able to see the word or phrase written on the card.
    ํ•™์ƒ๋“ค์€ ์ž์‹ ์˜ ์นด๋“œ์— ์žˆ๋Š” ๋‹จ์–ด์™€ ๊ตฌ๋ฌธ๋งŒ ๋ณผ ์ˆ˜ ์žˆ์Šต๋‹ˆ๋‹ค.
  4. The student who looked at the word will describe the vocabulary without saying the word.

  • You need to go through this process if you want to get hired.

  • There is a lot of traffic during this time.

5. Students will repeat until they have completed all the cards.

Wrap-Up:

  • What do you want to do after graduating? What do you need to do in order to do this work?
