German Level 2, Activity 08: Arbeits- und Lebenspläne / Plans for Work and Life (Online)

Description: In this activity, students will learn about work and life vocabulary.
Semantic Topics: Work, Arbeit, Job, Beruf, Retirement, Ruhestand, Alone, Allein, Together, Zusammen, Either, Neither , Nor,  Entweder, Weder, Noch.

Products: Bingo Cards about goals and dreams.  Bingokarten über Ziele und Träume.

Practices: Learning about other student’s goals and dreams.  Lernen über die Ziele und Träume anderer Schüler.

Perspectives: When building friendships, it is important to value the goals and dreams of others. Beim Aufbau von Freundschaften ist es wichtig, die Ziele und Träume anderer wertzuschätzen.

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard: 1.1 Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • Standard: 1.2 Students understand and interpret spoken and written language on a variety of topics.
  • Standard: 3.1 Students reinforce and further their knowledge of other disciplines through German.

Idaho State Content Standards:

  • Objective: COMM 1.1 Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions.
  • Objective: COMM. 2.1 Understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.
  • Objective: CONN 1.2 Relate information studied in other subjects to the target language and culture.

NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements:

  • I can talk about what job I would like to have.
  • I can talk about where and how I would like to live.
  • I can say how much I would like to earn.

Warm-Up

Discuss the following questions with the students:

Would you rather…?

Würdet ihr lieber…?

 

1. Live alone or with friends?

Alleine oder mit Freunden wohnen?

 

2. Work overseas or in Boise?

Im Ausland oder in Boise arbeiten?

 

3. Think about the future or the past?

An die Zukunft oder die Vergangenheit denken?

Main Activity

Students are divided into break-out rooms and ask some of the posted questions about where the students would like to live, what they would like to be, at what age they would like to retire, how much they would like to earn and who they would want to live with.

Die Schüler werden in Break-out-Rooms aufgeteilt und stellen einige der ausgehängten Fragen darüber, wo die Schüler gerne leben würden, was sie gerne wären, in welchem Alter sie in Rente gehen möchten, wie viel sie verdienen möchten und mit wem sie leben möchte.

 

1. Share “Student Tic Tac Toe Card” with the class and put student pairs in breakout rooms.

Teilen Sie “Student Tic Tac Toe Card” mit der Klasse und legen Sie Studentenpaare in Breakout-Rooms.

  • Let them know they can use the annotate feature in Zoom to play tic tac toe!
  • Lassen Sie sie wissen, dass sie die Anmerkungsfunktion in Zoom verwenden können, um Tic Tac Toe zu spielen!

 

2. Students should ask the questions on the slide to their partners. (Explain the underlined words if they do not understand).

  • Students should answer in a complete sentence.

3. After answering the question the student can mark a box in the tic tac toe game.

Nach der Beantwortung der Frage kann der Schüler eine Box im Tic Tac Toe Spiel markieren.

 

4. After a game has finished, they can start again and ask new questions. Allow students to switch partners every 5 minutes or so…

Nachdem ein Spiel beendet ist, können sie wieder anfangen und neue Fragen stellen. Erlauben Sie den Schülern, den Partner etwa alle 5 Minuten zu wechseln…

Wrap-Up

Ask the students what should be reviewed in the activity next week. The topics are on the slide.

End of Activity:

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate their confidence. (Use thumbs up/thumbs down)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
