Description: Students talk about their dream holiday and plan the holiday using the TUI App.  They will then present their holiday to the group.

Semantic Topics: Travel, Reisen, Holiday,  Urlaub, Superlatives, Superlative, Commands, Befehle.

Products: TUI Travel App, TUI Reise-App.

Practices: The use of technology to plan a dream vacation.  Der Einsatz von Technologie, um einen Traumurlaub zu planen.

Perspectives:  Travel to a German speaking country provides many opportunities to further German language education and Germanic cultural education. Planning ahead can make for a better travel experience.  Reisen in ein deutschsprachiges Land bieten viele Möglichkeiten der deutschsprachigen und germanisch-kulturellen Bildung. Eine vorausschauende Planung kann für ein besseres Reiseerlebnis sorgen.

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.2  Students understand and interpret spoken and written language on a variety of topics.
  • Standard 1.3 Students understand and interpret spoken and written language on a variety of topics.

Idaho State Content Standards:

  • Objective: COMM 2.1  Understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read or viewed on a variety of topics.
  • Objective: COMM 3.1  Present information, concepts, and ideas to inform, explain, persuade, and narrate on a variety of topics using appropriate media in the target language.

Warm-Up

1. Watch the TUI App.

Main Activity

Plan Your Trip!

Plant euren Urlaub!

 

1. With PicCollage, Maps or Google Earth plan your dream holiday.

          Mit PicCollage, Maps oder Google Earth plant euren Traumurlaub!

 

2. Present your dream holiday for the group.

               Präsentiert den Traumurlaub für die Gruppe!

Wrap-Up

Ask students the following question(s) to finish the activity:

  • Versucht ihr die Sprache ein wenig zu lernen, bevor ihr in Urlaub fahrt? (Are you trying to learn the language a bit before you go on vacation?)
  • Was waren die größten Missgeschicke oder Pannen (accidents) die euch auf euren Reisen passiert sind? (What were the biggest mishaps or accidents that happened to you on your travels?)
  • Wie würdet ihr euch ohne Smartphone auf einer Reise zurechtfinden? (How would you find your way on a trip without a smartphone?)

End of activity:

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate their confidence. (Use thumbs up/thumbs down)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
