German Level 4, Activity 11: Schulscharaden / School Charades (Face to Face)

Description: Students talk about stress and play Charades using school vocabulary to relieve stress.

Semantic Topics: Stress, Games, Spielen, Charades, Charaden, Health, Gesundheit.

Products:  School Charades Cards.

Practices:  Understanding how to deal with stress.  Verstehen, wie man mit Stress umgeht.

Perspectives:  Germans appreciate stress relief through their lakes the theater, playing sports, wandering in the countryside, and being with family.  Die Deutschen schätzen Stressabbau durch See, Theater, Sport, Spaziergänge in der Natur und Familie.

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.3  Students present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics.
  • Standard 1.2  Students understand and interpret spoken and written language on a variety of topics.

Idaho State Content Standards:

  • Objective: COMM 2.1 Understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.
  • Objective: CONN 1.1  Compare and contrast information acquired from other content areas.

NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements:

  • I can answer questions with my own opinion.
  • I can use physical gestures to negotiate meaning.
  • I can talk about my future plans.

Warm-Up

  • Wie gehst du am besten mit Schulstress um? (What is the best way to deal with school stress?)
  • Was sind deine Tricks, um nicht in Stress zu geraten? (What are your tricks to avoid getting stressed?)

Main Activity

1. Print and cut out the Charades cards linked in the materials needed section.

Ausdrucken und auschneiden die Charadenkarten die in den “Materials Needed” verlinkt sind. 

 

2. Have students play Charades using the Charades cards. They will be in groups of 3-4 and alternation turns.

Lassen Sie die Schüler Scharade spielen, indem Sie die Scharade-Karten verwenden. Sie werden in Gruppen von 3-4 und abwechselnd an der Reihe sein. 

Wrap-Up

Ask students the following question(s) to finish the activity:

  • Wie haben Sie die Frühlingsferien verbracht? (How did you spend spring break?)
  • Was habt ihr dieses Wochenende vor? (What are your plans for the weekend?)

End of activity:

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate their confidence. (Use thumbs up/thumbs down)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!

  • I can talk about myself and my visions/dream.
