Description: Students will practice coming up with their own news stories using pictures and headlines provided.

Semantic Topics: The News, Nachrichten, Stories, Geschichten, Accidents, Unfälle, Headlines, Schlagzeilen.

Products: News Photos, Nachrichten Fotos.

Practices: News in German speaking countries.  Nachrichten im deutschsprachigen Raum.

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.1: Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics.

Idaho State Content Standards:

  • Objective: COMM 1.1 Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions.
  • Objective: COMM 2.1 Understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.

Warm-Up

Talk about what news stories they heard in the news today.

  • Sprechen Sie darüber, welche Nachrichten sie heute in den Nachrichten gehört haben.

Main Activity

1. Students draw a card.

  • Schüler ziehen eine Karte.

 

2. Then spend 5-10 minutes preparing a short news report based on the headline and picture provided on the card.

  • Dann verbringen Sie 5-10 Minuten damit, einen kurzen Nachrichtenbericht basierend auf der Schlagzeile und dem Bild auf der Karte vorzubereiten.

 

3. Students can be as creative as they like.

  • Die Schüler können so kreativ sein, wie sie möchten.

Wrap-Up

Ask students the following question to finish the activity:

  • Was machst du dieses Wochenende? (What are you doing this weekend?)

END OF ACTIVITY:

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate their confidence. (Use thumbs up/thumbs down)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
