Description: Students will practice coming up with their own news stories using pictures and headlines provided.

Semantic Topics: The News, Nachrichten, Stories, Geschichten, Accidents, Unfälle, Headlines, Schlagzeilen, Reading and Writing with Conjunctions to create more Complex Sentences, Lesen und Schreiben mit Konjunktionen, um komplexere Sätze zu bilden.

Products: News Photos, Nachrichten Fotos.

Practices: News in German speaking countries.  Nachrichten im deutschsprachigen Raum.

Perspectives: Value of the freedom of the press in German speaking countries.  Wert der Pressefreiheit im deutschsprachigen Raum.

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.1: Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics.

Idaho Content Standards for World Languages:

  • Objective: COMM 1.1 Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions.
  • Objective: COMM 2.1 Understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.

Warm-Up

1. Talk about what news stories they heard in the news today.

Main Activity

1. Students draw a card

Schüler ziehen eine Karte

2. Then spend 5-10 minutes preparing a short news report based on the headline and picture provided on the card.

3. Students can be as creative as they like.
