🛤️German Level 4, Activity 11: Reisen / Travel (Online)

Description: Students will plan their own dream vacations and discuss what they would be like.

Semantic Topics: Travel, Reisen, Holiday,  Urlaub, superlatives, Superlative, commands, directions, Befehle, Richtungen.

Products: TUI Travel App, TUI Reise-App.

Practices: The use of technology to plan a dream vacation.  Der Einsatz von Technologie, um einen Traumurlaub zu planen.

Perspectives:  Travel provide many learning opportunities. Planning ahead can make for a better travel experience.  Reisen bieten viele Lernmöglichkeiten. Eine vorausschauende Planung kann für ein besseres Reiseerlebnis sorgen.

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.3  Students present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics.
  • Standard 2.2  Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the products and perspectives of the cultures studied.

Idaho State Content Standards:

  • Objective: COMM 1.1 Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions.
  • Objective: COMM 3.1 Present information, concepts and ideas to inform, explain, persuade, and narrate on a variety of topics using appropriate media in the target language.
  • Objective: CLTR 1.2  Explain the relationship between cultural practices/behaviors and the perspectives that represent the target culture’s view of the world.

NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements:

  • I can plan and present my ideal trip.
  • I can use resources or technology to help me plan a trip more effectively.
  • I can discuss past travel experiences.

Materials Needed:

Warm-Up

1. Discuss the Can-Do Statements with the Students.

 

2. Watch the TUI video and discuss the following questions:

 

3. Discussion Questions:

  • Was kann man mit dem App machen? (What can you do with this app?)
  • Denkt ihr dass die “Mein TUI App” hilfreich sein wird? (Do you think that the“Mein TUI App” would be helpful?)

Main Activity

Students will plan their own vacation with Pic-Collage, Maps, or Google Earth, then present their  vacation to the group.
Die Schüler planen ihren eigenen Urlaub mit Pic-Collage, Maps oder Google Earth und stellen dann ihren Urlaub der Gruppe vor.

Wrap-Up

Ask students the following question(s) to finish the activity:

  • Versucht ihr die Sprache ein wenig zu lernen bevor ihr in Urlaub fahrt? (Would you try to learn the language a little before you go?)
  • Was waren die größten Missgeschicke oder Pannen (accidents) die euch auf euren Reisen passiert sind? (What were the biggest misfortunes or accidents that happened to you on your trip?)
  • Wie würdet ihr euch ohne Smartphone auf einer Reise zurechtfinden? (How would you find your way on your trip without your smartphone?)

End of activity:

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate their confidence. (Use thumbs up/thumbs down)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
