👋German Level 4, Activity 14: Tschüss, Auf Wiedersehen / Goodbye (Face-to-Face)

Description: Students discuss summer plans and their favorite things about German.

Semantic Topics: Goodbye, Tschüss, Auf Wiedersehen, Summer Plans, Sommerpläne, Adjectives,  Adjektive, Adverbs, Adverbien, Conjunctions, Konjunktionen.

Products: Kahoot, Summertime activities, Sommeraktivitäten.

Practices: Listening to classmates speaking in German about summer activities and favorite German phrases.  Valuing the German language learning that has happened over the past semester.  Klassenkameraden zuhören, die auf Deutsch über Sommeraktivitäten und deutsche Lieblingssätze sprechen. Wertschätzung des Deutschlernens im letzten Semester.

Perspectives: Value associated with German language learning.  Value of each classmate. Wert, der mit dem Erlernen der deutschen Sprache verbunden ist. Wert jedes Mitschülers.

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.1 Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • Standard 1.3 Students present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics.

Idaho State Content Standards:

  • Objective: COMM 1.1  Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions.
  • Objective: COMM 3.1 Present information, concepts, and ideas to inform, explain, persuade, and narrate on a variety of topics using appropriate media in the target language.

NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements:

  • I can play Kahoot.
  • I can show off my German skills.
  • I can say goodbye to my awesome group.

Materials Needed:


Play Kahoot!
Kahoot spielen!

Main Activity

What will/would you like to do this summer?
Was wird / möchtet ihr diesen Sommer machen?


Ask students the following question to finish the activity:

  • Was ist ihre lieblings Phrasen auf Deutsch? (What is your favorite German phrase?)


Everything has an end, only the sausage has two.
Alles hat ein Ende, nur die Wurst hat zwei.

End of activity:

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate their confidence.
    (Use thumbs up/thumbs down)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
