German Level 4, Activity 14: Tchüss, Auf Wiedersehen / Goodbye (Online)

Description:  Students discuss summer plans and favorite things about German.

Semantic Topics: Goodbye, Tschüss, Auf Wiedersehen, Summer Plans, Sommerpläne, Adjectives,  Adjektive, Adverbs, Adverbien, Conjunctions, Konjunktionen.

Products: Kahoot, Summertime activities, Sommeraktivitäten.

Practices: Listening to classmates speaking in German about summer activities and favorite German phrases.  Valuing the German language learning that has happened over the past semester.

Perspectives: Value associated with German language learning.  Value of each classmate.

NCSSFL-ACTFL World-Readiness Standards:

  • Standard 1.1 Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
  • Standard 1.3 Students present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics.

Idaho State Content Standards:

  • Objective: COMM 1.1  Interact and negotiate meaning (spoken, signed, written conversation) to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions.
  • Objective: COMM 3.1 Present information, concepts, and ideas to inform, explain, persuade, and narrate on a variety of topics using appropriate media in the target language.

NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements:

  • I can play Kahoot.
  • I can show off my German skills.
  • I can say goodbye to my awesome group.

Materials Needed:

Warm-Up

1. Discuss the Can-Do Statements with the Students

 

2. Students warm up by playing Kahoot over many different German language topics

Main Activity

  • What will/would you like to do this summer?
    Was wird / möchtet ihr diesen Sommer machen?

Wrap-Up

Ask students the following question to finish the activity:

  • Lieblings Phrasen auf Deutsch (What is your favorite German phrase?)

Example:

  • Everything has an end, only the sausage has two.
    Alles hat ein Ende, nur die Wurst hat zwei.

End of activity:

  • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate their confidence. (Use thumbs up/thumbs down)
  • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
  • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
